Upstate’s Worst Website nominations due by end of June

engeniuslogoGREENVILLE, SC – When does the worst become the best?

When specialty web marketing agency, Engenius, goes on the mission to find the Upstate’s Worst Website and then recreates it as a great website for free.

“At Engenius, we believe small businesses deserve great websites. They need to make sense, communicate well to the business’ audience and not break the bank,” said Chris Manley, Engenius’s managing partner.

Any business in the Upstate is eligible to apply for free at www.upstateworstwebsite.com, Manley said.  Business websites must be nominated and agree to be entered into the Upstate’s Worst Website competition in order to quality. Nominations are due by the end of June.

An expert panel of judges will review all nominations and will select finalists that will then be placed in front of the voting public, where every vote will be counted, Manley said. Winning is simple: the finalist website with the most votes at the end of the voting period will be crowned 2014’s Worst Website.

In case anyone wonders what makes an ugly website, Manley gave these examples:

  • It hasn’t been updated since a Bush was president.
  • Links don’t work.
  • Products are listed that haven’t been offered in five years.
  • It’s 35 pages—and it’s the website of a barber shop.
  • You can’t see it on your phone.
  • It looks more like a preschooler’s art project.

“The Upstate is filled with these kinds of sites,” Manley said. “We care so much about websites that we’re going to fix the problem – free of charge – for one lucky upstate business that has the absolute worst website.”
