Upstate Earth Month 2025: 67,000 Pounds of Litter and a Growing Legacy of Impact
June 24, 2025April 2025 marked the third year of the Upstate Earth Month collaboration, and communities across nine counties came together once again to clean, educate, and inspire. This multi-county effort, led by Keep South Carolina Beautiful affiliates, focused on litter cleanup, environmental education, and community engagement.
By the Numbers
- 1,246 volunteers took part in local efforts
- 67,634 pounds of litter were removed from roadways, waterways, and public areas
- Over 110 tires were collected and properly disposed of
- Cleanups and activities were held across 9 counties in the Upstate region
The campaign’s flexible schedule and widespread promotion allowed schools, civic groups, individuals, and businesses to participate in ways that worked best for their schedules and interests.
In Laurens County alone, 181 volunteers removed 7,810 pounds of litter—contributing significantly to the region-wide effort and demonstrating strong local commitment to a cleaner community.
“This initiative continues to grow each year, both in reach and in impact,” said Courtney Stonell, Keep Laurens County Beautiful Affiliate Coordinator. “What started as a regional cleanup effort has grown into a month-long movement rooted in community connection, environmental responsibility, and shared success.”
The success of Upstate Earth Month 2025 reflects the commitment of communities across the region.
