Upstate school leader named SC Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year

The South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) has named Steven Sokohl the 2021 South Carolina Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year. Steven Sokohl is an assistant principal at Berea Middle School in the Greenville County School District.
“We are excited to announce that Steven Sokohl has been named the SCASA Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year,” said Beth Phibbs, Executive Director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. “He is an exceptional leader who is a champion for all students and is well respected by the parents, students, faculty, and staff of Berea Middle School.”
Principal of Berea Middle School, Mr. Corey Collington said, “Steven Sokohl is an outstanding leader who is committed to being an advocate for all students and developing positive relationships with parents and teachers. He is always seeking out opportunities that will develop his skills and ability to become a better educational leader. The dedication and commitment that Steven Sokohl brings to Berea Middle School makes him an excellent choice for 2021 South Carolina Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year.”
Superintendent of Greenville County Schools, Dr. W. Burke Royster added, “We are so pleased to see Steven Sokohl’s recognition as SCASA Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year and believe he is most deserving of this honor. Steven is well respected by his colleagues and his supervisors. His instructional knowledge and ability to relate well to others are particular strengths that serve him well in the assistant principal role. We are most grateful to have Steven in Greenville County Schools.”
Mr. Sokohl was selected from an outstanding field of administrator candidates by a veteran panel of judges. The other finalist for 2021 South Carolina Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year was Elizabeth Whisennant, assistant principal at Lexington Middle School in Lexington County School District One. The criteria used in the selection of this award are set by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. The state sponsors are Horace Mann and Herff Jones.
