Upstate Warrior Solution to host official groundbreaking ceremony for Rupert Huse Veteran Center

Upstate Warrior Solution (UWS) is proud to announce the official groundbreaking for their new Rupert Huse Veteran Center (RHVC) on Wednesday, March 16th from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at 770 Pelham Road in Greenville, SC. The RHVC will serve as a hub for veteran services in the Upstate, allowing the nonprofit to reach warriors and their families in even more substantive and farther reaching ways.
In the fall of 2021, a 10-year lease for 770 Pelham Road, a venue totaling 40,000 square feet, was signed between the organization and Real Op Investments. The purpose of the RHVC will be to serve as a one-stop shop for veterans, Guard, Reserve, and active duty service members, as well as their families, ensuring they are supported in every way possible. “Care for our local warriors and their families is challenging, as the existing base of services is often disconnected and difficult for our veterans to navigate. Our veterans need meaningful employment, stable housing, affordable healthcare, and social connectivity, and our current system of support is not getting the job done. As a result, our community is going to take a new approach,” said Charlie Hall, UWS President.
Key partners from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors will be co-located at the center in a strategic effort to improve collaboration and streamline veteran care, thus increasing UWS’s ability to address the complex issues facing our community’s veterans. “The RHVC makes perfect sense,” stated the President of the Community Foundation of Greenville, Bob Morris. “We’ve seen the success of this model with projects like the Center for Developmental Services where providers are co-located and services streamlined. UWS has been a leader in this space for almost a decade, and we are proud to support their efforts to build a strong network of veteran service providers in Greenville.”
As a major contributing factor in the purpose of the RHVC, this new project will facilitate UWS’s ability to help reduce veteran suicide rates, unemployment, and homelessness. Simultaneously, the organization looks to significantly broaden the number of veterans served annually, increase the economic impact on the Upstate community, and expand the veteran service network. This work will be done in concert with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs sanctioned Upstate Veteran Alliance Network, of which UWS is a lead organization. “UVAN is one of four Community Veteran Engagement Boards in the state of South Carolina, and UWS was instrumental in starting this network in 2016 and helping sustain it today. The RHVC will be a physical gathering space for all members of the UVAN community, and we are grateful to UWS for running point on this outstanding project,” said Kevin McBride, UVAN’s co-chair and Director of PRISMA Health’s Military and Government Liaison Office.
The Rupert Huse Veteran Center is prepared to open its doors later this year with plans to begin serving warriors and their families by early next year. UWS is grateful for this new and exciting chapter of opportunity and looks forward to continuing to provide resources to warriors and their families from all over the Upstate.
