USC Law School Honors Two Nelson Mullins Partners With Compleat Lawyer Awards

CHARLESTON, SC – April 18, 2011 – Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough’s Charleston partner Elizabeth Scott Moïse and Columbia partner Thad Westbrook were honored Thursday with the University of South Carolina School of Law’s 2011 Compleat Lawyer awards.

The awards were established in 1992 by the University of SouthCarolina Law School Alumni Association to recognize alumni foroutstanding civic and professional accomplishments. Each year the AlumniAssociation recognizes nine outstanding alumni at the AlumniAssociation Dinner. Nominees are individuals who have made significantcontributions to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standardof professional competence, ethics, and integrity.

Ms.Moïse earned a Juris Doctor in 1989, where she was awarded the lawschool’s Claud M. Sapp Award for leadership, scholarship, and industry.She practices in the areas of insurance coverage and bad faith, consumerfinance, class action litigation, and product liability defense.  In2008, she was awarded the first South Carolina Law Review Alumni Award.Previously, she received the Firm’s Claude M. Scarborough, Jr. Pro BonoAward. She currently serves on the Judicial Qualifications Committee ofthe South Carolina Bar. She has been an adjunct faculty member at theUniversity of South Carolina School of Law since 1992 and the CharlestonSchool of Law since its beginning in 2004. She is active in thecommunity and serves as Chair of the Board of Visitors for theUniversity of South Carolina. She also is a Board Member for theHarleston Village Neighborhood Association.

title=Mr. Westbrook earned his Juris Doctor in 1999.  He practices in Columbiain the areas of business litigation, consumer finance litigation, andclass action defense. Mr. Westbrook is a member of the South CarolinaSupreme Court’s Committee on Character and Fitness and on the Board ofTrustees for the University of South Carolina, having been elected tothe position by the S.C. Legislature in 2010. He is also a former ViceChairman of the Board of Visitors at the University of South Carolina.  Mr. Westbrook is the Past Chairman of the Board of Directors forLexington Medical Center and now serves as Vice Chairman on theLexington Medical Center Foundation Board. Mr. Westbrook also serves onthe Advisory Board of the Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough Centeron Professionalism at the University of South Carolina School of Law.
