USC Law School to Honor William “Billy” Wilkins

GREENVILLE, SC – March 7, 2012 – Nexsen Pruet announcesthat William W. “Billy” Wilkins, a member (partner) in the firm’sGreenville office, has been selected as a 2012 Platinum Compleat Lawyerby the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Each spring, the USC Law School Alumni Associationrecognizes nine attorneys who demonstrate outstanding civic andprofessional accomplishments as well as “exemplify the highest standardof professional competence, ethics and integrity.”
“I cannot think of an attorney who is moredeserving of this honor. Billy’s work in establishing federal sentencingguidelines is considered to be one of the most important achievementsin the history of our federal judicial system,” saidJohn Sowards, Nexsen Pruet’s Chairman of the Board. “Since joining ourfirm Billy has been involved in complex commercial litigation matters atthe trial level and has represented clients in appeals to the S.C.Supreme Court, Indiana Supreme Court and theFourth Circuit Court of Appeals.”
Wilkins, who served as former Chief Judge of theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and Chair of theUnited States Sentencing Commission, will be honored at a CompleatLawyer Awards Dinner at the Columbia MetropolitanConvention Center in Columbia on April 19th.
Recipients are nominated by members of the SouthCarolina Bar and selected by a committee of distinguished members of theSouth Carolina bench and bar.
The Compleat Lawyer awards were established in 1992and recognize attorneys at four levels: Platinum (30+ years of lawpractice), Gold (15-29 years of practice), Silver (fewer than 14 yearsof practice) and Bronze (current law students).Read more about this year’s honorees.
