University of South Carolina to Open Welcome Center in Downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC – June 14, 2012 – TheUniversity of South Carolina will open a welcome center in the businessheart of Charleston. USC recently purchased the remaining three years ofthe lease for the retail space at 258 King Street. The site was theformer flagship location for the Greek jewelry store, Oxette.

 

Jennifer Davis, owner ofDomicile Real Estate Brokerage, negotiated the lease buy-out and athree-year commitment from USC with the building owner Patterson SmithCompany from John Street. Said Davis, A lease on King Street, oranywhere in the downtown historic district, is one of the most valuableassets a retail location can have.

  

Prior to the agreement,President of USC, Harris Pastides, toured the Charleston location andspoke with Mayor Riley about USC’s plans for the space.

 

According to LuanneLawrence, Vice President of Communications for USC, the store will be awelcoming and information center to create a liaison for prospectivestudents, current students, alumni and friends of the university. In thefront of the store they will sell their premium lines of USCwearables, USC jewelry, their golf line and special coaches gear.Lawrence said that the re-design work has already begun and that theyhope to be open on King Street by late August.
