USO South Carolina recognizes its 125 volunteers during National Volunteer Week and gives community a chance to help make a difference

April 11, 2016

As people across the country take this week to recognize those who do extraordinary things through service, USO South Carolina is paying tribute to its more than 125 volunteers who consistently give back to the men and women who give so much for our country.

The USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. For 75 years, the USO, a private, nonprofit organization, has served the men and women in the U.S. military and their families throughout their service – from the moment they join, through their deployments and as they transition back to their communities. In 2015 alone, the USO South Carolina’s volunteers gave nearly 15,000 hours of their time. Volunteers continue to be the backbone of the organization and the reason the USO is able to fulfill our mission. From packing and delivering care packages to National Guard service members working around the clock during the historic flooding in 2015, to providing the last touch of civilian life to new recruits, volunteers make it possible for the USO to always be by their side. Volunteers are deserving of our recognition this week and every day of the year.

“We deeply appreciate the commitment of USO volunteers and all they have done for our service members these past 75 years,” said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston, Jr., the adjutant general for South Carolina.  “Their programs are what have connected our military with what they cherish the most, home and their loved ones. We are grateful for the service of the USO volunteers, and all volunteers, who make our communities stronger.”

A special party is planned for the USO volunteers later this year.
