Verizon supports Charleston-area residents impacted by Hurricane Matthew

October 10, 2016

To help victims of Hurricane Matthew more easily reach family, friends and other important contacts, a Wireless Emergency Communication Center (WECC) has been deployed by Verizon in Charleston near the areas hardest hit by the storm.

Wireless Emergency Communication Centers are generator-powered mobile units that have device charging and computer workstations, and wireless phones, tablets and other devices to contact friends, family and other important contacts over the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. A WECC has been deployed to the following location:

  • Summerville High School, 1101 Boonehill Rd, Summerville SC 29483
  • Open: Monday, Oct. 10, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

The WECC will provide teams of technicians available to troubleshoot and charge up wireless phone batteries that survived the storm and/or have lost power.

Additionally, Verizon has opened its company-owned stores in the impacted areas of Charleston to provide free local and long distance calls, phone charging and phone troubleshooting to all local residents, regardless of their personal wireless provider. To find their nearest store, residents can visit Verizon online at http://www.verizonwireless.com/stores.
