August 11, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC – August 11, 2009 –  – Nexsen Pruet is pleased to announce that Victoria L. Eslinger has been named the 2009 Advocate of the Year by the South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center. Eslinger is a member (partner) of the firm and practices in the Employment and Labor Law and Business Litigation Groups in Columbia.

TheAdvocate of the Year award is given each year to a member of the Palmetto state who exemplifies Appleseed’s role as “a voice for low-income children and families.”

Ms. Eslinger’s selection marks the first time a woman has been honored asAdvocate of the Year. She began her legal career as an attorney with Palmetto Legal Aid Service Agency in the early 1970s and has maintained her interest in justice for those whose economic circumstances inhibit their ability to have their voices heard.

She has a long history of pursuing equal rights for all. In the 1970s, she filed a lawsuit which ultimately won women the right to serve as pages in the State House.   In addition, Ms. Eslinger, who is fluent in Spanish, continues to accept court appointed cases in circuits outside of Richland County where there is a need for Spanish speaking attorneys.

During her distinguished career, Ms. Eslinger has served a member of the faculty of the Harvard University Law School Intensive Trial Advocacy Course for over 20 years, and has served on the Boards of numerous state and national civic organizations. The University of South Carolina’s School of Law has recognized her with a Compleat Lawyer Platinum Award.

The South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center will host an award ceremony in Eslinger’s honor on September 16th.  Click here for more information.
