Volunteers across the Midlands to Participate in Volunteer Day on April 11

April 7, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – United Way of the Midlands will host a Day of Action on Saturday, April 11 to kick off National Volunteer Week, which will run through April 18. This week of service is designed to involve hundreds of volunteers throughout the Midlands.

On Saturday, volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in group and individual projects with local non-profit agencies. Some of the sites will include: American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia, Central SC Habitat for Humanity, the Cooperative Ministry, Richland Library, EdVenture Children’s Museum, Palmetto Conservation Foundation, Home Works of America and many more.

Throughout the day, volunteers will help provide support to these agencies by participating in some of the following activities: repairing homes, planting and gardening, cleaning shelters, restoring facilities and rooms and painting among other opportunities. Some of the events are family-friendly and volunteers are encouraged to bring their children to volunteer as well.

Over 80 volunteers have already signed up to participate, and United Way wants to fill the additional spots with other volunteers. Some of the project sites that are still in need of volunteers include: the Cooperative Ministry, Babcock Center, Midlands Housing Alliance/Transitions, Vital Connections, Palmetto Conservation Foundation and Home Works of America. This is a great opportunity for families, companies, churches, civic organizations and high school students to make a difference by volunteering as a group or individually.

To sign up, visit uway.org/events to view all of the projects and register. For more information, contact Margaret DuBose at 803-733-5118 or [email protected].
