Volunteers Needed in Simpsonville as Greenville Literacy Association Expands Adult Education Services
July 29, 2026The Greenville Literacy Association (GLA), in partnership with the Center for Community Services, is actively seeking community volunteers to support its adult education and English language programs in southern Greenville County.
Operating out of the Center for Community Services in Simpsonville, the program provides essential educational services designed to help adult learners build confidence, improve English proficiency, and boost overall employability.
The Mission: Literacy and Employability
With a core mission to increase literacy and employability for all adult learners, the association’s Simpsonville location offers critical academic support for residents across the Golden Strip.
Programs focus on English as a Second Language (ESL), basic reading and math skills, and GED preparation—equipping adults with the necessary tools to secure sustainable employment and navigate everyday life.
“Together, we can help our neighbors build confidence, improve their English skills, and create brighter futures,” the organization shared in a community call to action.
Volunteer Roles and Flexible Schedules
To meet growing demand, GLA is recruiting local residents for two primary volunteer roles:
-
Classroom Instructors: Leading group classes in structured learning environments.
-
1-on-1 Tutors: Providing personalized, individualized instruction tailored to student needs.
No prior teaching experience or foreign language fluency is required to tutor ESL students, as training and structured instructional materials are provided by the organization.
