Von Lehe elected University of South Carolina board chairman

Charleston attorney John von Lehe was elected the new chairman of the University of South Carolina’s Board of Trustees on Friday, Aug. 19. He replaces outgoing chairman Eugene P. Warr Jr., who served as chairman since 2012.

Von Lehe, a partner in the Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough law firm, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from USC in 1968 and later his earned his law degree at Carolina. A member of the board since 1998, he has served on its Executive Committee and Ad Hoc Committee on Strategic Planning.

Von Lehe has held many positions of professional, community and state service including president of S.C. Bar Foundation, chair of the Tax Section of the S.C. Bar, chair of the State Museum Commission, president of the Charleston Museum, and treasurer of numerous organizations. He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto by former Gov. Mark Sanford in 2006.

Hubert F. “Hugh” Mobley was appointed vice chairman of the board.

Trustees are responsible for providing governance and oversight of university operations, policies, long-range planning. Most of its 21 members are elected by the state’s General Assembly and each of the state’s 16 judicial districts are represented.
