despite accelerated schedule, fast-track project delivered a week early

SPARTANBURG, SC – October 27, 2011 – Spartanburg-based Waldrop Mechanical Services, a full-service mechanical contracting firm, recently completed a major HVAC renovation project on the campus of Wofford College in Spartanburg — ahead of schedule. Waldrop’s assignment involved a comprehensive mechanical upgrade of equipment and systems for two student dormitories, Shipp Hall and DuPre Hall, both of which were constructed in 1961. Renovation activities for both residence halls were executed simultaneously.

The original installed mechanical systems were still operational but in need of replacement. After performing demolition services, Waldrop replaced 201 fan coils along with associated chilled water/hot water secondary pumping and piping systems. Following the installation of new equipment and systems, Waldrop performed all insulation and test/balance activities.

Bill Caldwell, president of Waldrop, noted, “It was imperative that construction be completed within an 12-week period during the summer break in order to accommodate Wofford’s housing commitment to 300 students for the 2011 fall semester in both dormitories. The college had to bring both facilities back on line, or face serious challenges with temporary student housing if the project was not completed on time. Despite the challenges associated with an accelerated schedule, Waldrop delivered the project one week early.”

Waldrop’s $1.9 million contract was with local general contractor, J.M. Solesbee Construction Co., Inc., also based in Spartanburg.

Waldrop Mechanical Services is one of only a select few South Carolina HVAC/mechanical contractors featured on the 2011 list of Top Specialty Contractors recently published by Engineering News-Record Southeast.
