December 5, 2011

SPARTANBURG, SC – December 2, 2011 – Spartanburg-based Waldrop Mechanical Services, a full-service mechanical contracting firm, was recognized for its exemplary work on a major HVAC renovation project at Wofford College at the 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards gala hosted by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina, on November 17.

Waldrop won the highest level award — ABC’s Eagle Award— in the Specialty Contractor category, Mechanical – Under $2 million. Waldrop’s assignment involved a comprehensive mechanical upgrade of equipment and systems for two of Wofford’s student dormitories, Shipp Hall and DuPre Hall, both of which were constructed in 1961.

Renovation activities for both residence halls were executed simultaneously during the college’s 2011 summer break. Despite the challenges associated with an accelerated schedule, Waldrop delivered the project one week early.Waldrop’s $1.9 million contract was with local general contractor, J.M. Solesbee Construction Co., Inc., also based in Spartanburg.

Waldrop Mechanical Services is one of only a select few South Carolina HVAC/mechanical contractors featured on the 2011 list of Top Specialty Contractors recently published by Engineering News-Record Southeast.
