Wayne Gilbert announces campaign for Richland County Council District #8

January 28, 2016

COLUMBIA, SC – Wayne Gilbert’s statement is below:

“I am Wayne Gilbert, a Democratic candidate for Richland County Council District #8.  I am the son of the late Senator Frank Gilbert and Mrs. Lois Gilbert.  They both served in the field of education.  They taught me the value of working to have a good work-ethic.  They instilled in me integrity and gave me an identity; all of which helped to develop my character.

I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina and have earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy University.  Currently, I am employed with the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office (formally part of the Budget and Control Board).  I have over 28 years of government experience, in which I assist in the development and implementation of public policies.  Additionally, I am a small business owner and the Broker-in-Charge of Palmetto Realty Services.

I plan to improve our community and make it a better place to live and

work by using strategic planning skills.  Ultimately, I want all citizens of Richland County to have a higher quality of life.  I am running to stimulate business growth and support small businesses by providing training opportunities to improve our workforce.  I will propose viable solutions to manage our tax dollars effectively and I will be transparent and accountable for my actions.

I am married to Beth (Evans) Gilbert, Ed.D.  She is a Literacy Coach in Richland School District Two.  We have one son, Thomas, who is a sophomore at Clemson University.  We are members of First Nazareth Baptist Church, where I serve as a Trustee.  Additionally, I am an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated as well as several other organizations in the community.

I pledge to be an accessible, accountable and effective leader.  I will approach policy-making in multiple ways; academically, professionally, and personally.  I ask that you support my candidacy.  You may contact me at (803) 200-1777 or by email: [email protected].

I believe in strong family values, as they are a central part of my life and the cornerstone of my decision making.  As your county council member, I will be open-minded and listen to voices of my constituents.”
