Weddle Real Estate Investments moves forward towards redeveloping Capital City Stadium site

June 19, 2019

Weddle Real Estate Investment (W-REI), a commercial real estate firm with ties to the Columbia community, received a green light in their efforts to redevelop the Capital City Stadium Site.  During this evening’s Columbia City Council meeting, a second reading of their proposal passed with a 6 to 1 vote pushing their application to County Council for review and a vote.

“I am very excited to be back in Columbia with the possibility of redeveloping the Capital City Stadium site,” said Andrew Weddle, Principal and Managing Director of Weddle Real Estate Investments.  “We began this by reaching out to the local community and speaking with the neighbors and residents around this site.  We have sat down with leaders like Councilman Ed McDowell and County Councilwoman Dalhi Myers, who has provided invaluable input, and through this process we’ve been able to secure the input and support needed in the community to make this site beneficial for all parties involved.”

If the proposal is approved by Richland County, W-REI will fix the floodplain in and around the site and encourage a public/private partnership to build an infill mixed-use development with market rate apartments and neighborhood retail.

“Capital City Stadium is such an iconic location for many Columbia residents,” Weddle continued.  “I want to thank City Council for their support in allowing us to offer new and exciting opportunities to the neighborhood and residents in the area.”
