Four winners, including a student from Spartanburg, will attend the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship

SPARTANBURG, SC – Wells Fargo announced the winners of Succeeding TogetherSM, an essay contest that celebrates the huge impact The First Tee® has on students across the country and allows participants to express how The First Tee has had a positive effect on their lives.

Wells Fargo created the contest specifically for the 30,000+ teenage participants of The First Tee®, a youth development organization that introduces young people to the game of golf and its inherent values at 175 chapters across the U.S. The contest asked participants to write about the importance of having and being a part of a “Go-To Team,” a Core Life Lesson of The First Tee that fosters partnership and teamwork in all areas of life.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 11.17.42 AMA panel of judges from Wells Fargo, The First Tee, and the Wells Fargo Championship tournament office chose four winners from the written submissions. Grace Vaughan, 17, from The First Tee of Spartanburg & Cherokee Counties, was named the grand prize winner. Christian David, 18, from The First Tee of Phoenix; Sophia Qiu, 16, from The First Tee of Connecticut; and Madison Harwell, 14, from The First Tee of Augusta, were named the first prize winners.

All four contest winners receive a four-day/three-night trip for two to Charlotte, N.C., to attend the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship and experience the excitement of a PGA TOUR event from inside the ropes. As the grand prize winner, Vaughan will also play in the tournament’s Pro-Am on Wednesday, May 13, at Quail Hollow, alongside a PGA TOUR player. Previous Succeeding TogetherSM contest winners have played with Rickie Fowler in 2013 and Rory McIlroy in 2014.

“We’re excited to have the grand prize winner of Wells Fargo’s Succeeding Together contest from here in Spartanburg, and really proud of all the wonderful stories that the contest participants shared through their essays,” said Ethan Burroughs, Wells Fargo Business Banking manager and market president for Spartanburg. “Wells Fargo recognizes the value of relationships and how we can achieve great things by working together — in the classroom, on the golf course and in our communities.”

“The Wells Fargo Championship has been recognized by the PGA TOUR as one of their top events and Succeeding Together is an important part of our activities,” noted Kendall Alley, Community Banking regional president for the Carolinas West region. “This is an example of Wells Fargo doing something substantial to make a difference for our customers and our local communities. I can’t wait for Grace and her family to get to Charlotte to experience what the tournament has to offer. It will be special for everyone involved.”

In 2015, Wells Fargo deepened its relationship with The First Tee by becoming a national Trustee and further supporting the organization, its participants and volunteers – recognizing that little by little, we can join together to make a huge difference in the lives of so many kids.
