Wells Fargo raises walls of Habitat Home

May 10, 2017

On Friday, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County and corporate partner Wells Fargo raised the walls of the latest home to be built in Habitat’s Grace Point community.

The home is being built for the Woodruff family. As a Habitat Greenville program participant, Aquata Woodruff will complete 20 hours of homeownership education classes. She will also complete 200 hours of “sweat equity,” building her home and the homes of other Habitat homeowners, alongside volunteers from Wells Fargo and other partner organizations. She will pay an affordable mortgage for the home.
As part of Friday’s wall raising, Wells Fargo presented a $75,000 check to Habitat Greenville, enough to cover the entire cost of the home. This is the second home that Wells Fargo has fully sponsored with Habitat Greenville, and the company has made significant donations to additional Habitat builds. This home is one of many homes Wells Fargo has committed to building as part of the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation, which supports organizations across the country working to address the need for affordable housing in their communities.

A Habitat wall raising is a significant milestone in a family’s journey to home ownership. During the event, sponsors, partners, and volunteers have the opportunity to write encouraging messages to the family on the framing, which will become part of the home during construction.

“Corporate partners like Wells Fargo are vital to the mission of Habitat for Humanity,” said Monroe Free, President and CEO of Habitat Greenville, “They are leading by example in their commitment to strengthening affordable housing in our community, and we’re proud to work with them in welcoming the Woodruff family into their new home, which will help them build stability and independence.”
