WellSpent charts first path to better understanding of health care and economic development in South Carolina
Something new.
That was the story of the inaugural WellSpent forum held in Greenville last week. The purpose of the forum was to bring together business and healthcare leaders to discuss and develop statewide initiatives to better shape how the state looks at the role health care plays on economic development.
More than 60 guests from 10 major market segments attended the event where roundtable discussions focused on public-private relationships on health in support of economic development; addressing workforce gaps and the lack of available healthy employees and developing statewide alignment around measurements for linking business and health.
Dr. Randy Vogenberg, the forum’s convener, said a report will be created from the feedback and discussion from the event and be presented to the offices of Gov. Henry McMaster and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott as well as forum attendees.
From there, task forces will be created to start addressing some of the issues facing healthcare and the workforce.
“This is just the beginning,” Vogenberg said.
