West Ashley Farmers Market opens Wednesday

September 12, 2016

Opening day of the new West Ashley Farmers Market is Wednesday, September 14 from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m.in Ackerman Park at 55 Sycamore Avenue. Mayor John Tecklenburg will speak at 6 p.m. to welcome all in attendance and kick off the new farmers market. Entertainment will be provided by a local band, The Lowhills.

The farmers market will recur each Wednesday at Ackerman Park from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. through October 26. The evening market will offer residents the opportunity to stop on their way home to buy groceries, enjoy entertainment and connect with friends, family and neighbors.

“I am looking forward to celebrating the opening of the West Ashley Farmers Market. Citizens can come out, support local farmers, buy their fruits and vegetables and have fun! It is going to be a great community asset in West Ashley,” Mayor Tecklenburg said. “We have been working hard to put together a farmers market that will reflect and enhance the West Ashley community. It is our hope that the farmers market will help enliven the surrounding area—much like the downtown farmers market helped with the revitalization of the area around Marion square.”

The West Ashley Farmers Market—produced by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in cooperation with the City of Charleston Parks Department—is dedicated to the support and advocacy of local farmers and growers. The market features fresh seasonal produce and prepared foods from area vendors who source ingredients from nearby farms.
