Westwood Athletic Director joins an elite group of Certified Master Athletic Administrators
September 12, 2023Dr. Garrett Knight, Athletic Director at Westwood High School is leading by example by voluntarily earning the distinction of being a Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA). According to the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), Dr. Knight has demonstrated exemplary knowledge, contributions, and ongoing professional development in the field of interscholastic athletic administration.
Dr. Knight says he is always seeking ways to grow professionally, and he would like to see his students and colleagues have the same motivation to improve themselves through continuous learning.
“Being able to earn the CMAA distinction through the NIAAA has been the ultimate goal since becoming an Athletic Director. The purpose is to show fellow coaches and student-athletes that I am working to model leadership behaviors so I can instill those same qualities into them daily,” said Dr. Knight.
The voluntary certification process included a thorough evaluation of the candidate’s educational background, experience, NIAAA Leadership Courses, and professional contributions. It culminates with a practical written or oral presentation project. Dr. Knight is in an elite group of athletic administrators nationwide to attain this level of professionalism.
Dr. Knight holds a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from the University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in athletic management and administration from the United States Sports Academy, and a Doctor of Education degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education.
