Daniel Whitten, a licensed home and commercial inspector with 25 years of inspection experience in the Upstate, has founded Daniel Whitten Inspections, LLC. The company offers full home and commercial inspections throughout the Upstate of South Carolina, plus additional inspection services including reinspections, first phase/pre-insulation inspections, limited-area inspections, and builder’s letters. Whitten received his home inspection license in 1997, along with his general contractor’s license. He worked for the Upstate’s oldest inspection company for 25 years before founding Daniel Whitten Inspections and is one of the few remaining inspectors in the Upstate who personally walks the roof of every building he inspects.
Prior to making his home in Greenville, SC, Whitten graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in construction engineering in 1991, then worked for four years in Texas as an assistant project manager and project engineer for large national construction firms. His contracting company also provides occasional small to mid-sized contracting repair jobs on homes, specializing in at-sale house repairs on a deadline for buildings where he has not performed inspections. His contracting company also offers structural/framing repairs, roofing repairs, electrical and plumbing repairs, and crawlspace moisture control.
“I attribute my success largely to the wonderful mentors I had in the inspection business,” said Daniel Whitten. “So often inspectors learn their trade by completing a certification program, and then taking the licensing exam. I was fortunate to have many hours of on-the-job training with the best inspectors in the business — people with many decades of in the field experience. Learning from them was the best training I could have received and I am very grateful.”
“I also love to understand the way building systems are meant to work most effectively, and where those systems can go wrong. My engineering degree and general contractor’s license has helped give me a background and education in the anatomy and linkage of building structures and systems. So I’m typically able to provide conclusions about building faults without the need to call in further specialists, which is a convenience for buyers and sellers alike.”
