Wilson Kibler represents Southeastern Esthetics Institute in 27,000-square-foot lease in historic Tapp’s building

Wilson Kibler’s Lee Bussell represented Southeastern Esthetics Institute in leasing 27,000 square feet in the historic Tapp’s Building on Main Street. Southeastern Esthetics Institute, a nationally accredited esthetics and cosmetology institution that currently operates in several suites across the Vista, plans to consolidate its operations at Tapp’s, occupying the entirety of the main floor and the basement.
Courtney Sykes, the institute’s Chief Administration Officer, says renovations are expected to begin as early as the next few months. The institute plans to work with Sherer Architects to renovate the space at Tapp’s and, according to Sykes, they plan to highlight the art deco design of the building in its first iteration as Tapp’s Department Store. The Fountain Room in the basement, she added, will be converted into a coffee shop and eatery for students and visitors.
Southeastern Esthetics Institute is the largest privately-owned, nationally accredited esthetics institution in South Carolina. It offers nationally accredited curriculum through its esthetics licensure course and the advanced esthetics academy. Sykes says the institute operates year-round, with new groups of students rotating in every five weeks. The school maintains 100 to 150 students enrolled at any given time, which should add another element to the lively 1600 block of Main – home to the Nickelodeon Theatre, The Grand, Hendrix Restaurant, and Mast General Store.

According to Sykes, the institute is hopeful for a spring 2021 opening.
