Wine and Unwind Film Screening With Bud Ferillo

June 12, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC – June 19, 2014 – As part of its Wine and Unwind lecture and entertainment series, the Lourie Center is proud to celebrate the creative and professional accomplishments of older adults in the community.  On Thursday June 19 from 6-7:30 pm, Bud Ferillo, film producer/director, and advocate for strong public education at the state and national levels, will present a screening of his film “When the Bough Breaks”. “When the Bough Breaks” is a 43-minute film that addresses the state of literacy in South Carolina, with findings on brain development through advances in neuroscience that prove the value of early childhood initiatives. Producer and director Bud Ferillo will introduce his film to the audience and host a Q&A afterwards.  This documentary premiered to a sold out crowd in April at the 2014 Indie Grits Film Festival and the Lourie Center is pleased to offer the community the opportunity to view this film.

Ferillo also produced and directed the 2006 documentary film “Corridor of Shame: The Neglect of South Carolina’s Rural Schools”, which addressed the struggle to seek funding for an adequate education in rural South Carolina and the growing support for this cause.  Previously Mr. Ferillo served as Deputy Lieutenant Governor of the State of South Carolina (1982-1986) and Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the S.C. House of Representatives (1974-1982).

Wine and refreshments will be served. $5 suggested donation.
