A 75-Minute Reader’s Theatre Presentation Commemorating America’s 250th Year and Revealing a Crucial Chapter of South Carolina History

GEORGETOWN, SC — In celebration of America’s 250th year of freedom, the Winyah Auditorium is proud to present “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow,” a powerful and moving 75-minute presentation featuring acclaimed cultural historian and performer Ron Daise. The event takes place on Thursday evening, July 2 at 6:00 pm.

The production shines a light on the Hamburg Massacre, a deeply significant yet relatively unknown piece of South Carolina history. Through compelling storytelling, the production explores the profound fragility of freedom and the enduring resilience of the human spirit.

Experience the Power of “Reader’s Theatre”

For those unfamiliar with the format, Reader’s Theatre is a minimalist and deeply intimate style of performance. Instead of relying on heavy sets, elaborate costumes, or memorized lines, the actors read directly from scripts, using the raw power of the spoken word, vocal inflection, and vivid facial expressions to bring the narrative to life. It is a captivating format that strips away the spectacle, inviting the audience’s imagination to connect directly with the history being told.
