Womble Carlyle’s Mike Cashman Chosen for South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy

January 17, 2012

GREENVILLE, SC – January 17, 2012 – Womble Carlyle attorney Mike Cashman has been selected to attend the South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy.

This program, now in its four year, selects up to twelve candidates from the state at large to participate in a sixth-month program focusing on networking opportunities, professionalism, community awareness and leadership skills to prepare its graduates to position themselves as leaders in the community. Participants will meet with judges and legislators to gain insight in the judicial and political process and discuss current issues facing the South Carolina Bar. The importance of pro bono and community service also is emphasized.

Cashman, a business litigation attorney in Womble Carlyle’s Greenville office, already has an established track record of leadership. Before becoming an attorney, he served as an infantry officer and Airborne Ranger in the United States Army in increasing positions of responsibility, both stateside and abroad, culminating as Aide to the Commanding General of Fort Jackson and the United States Army Training Command. He also taught Military Science and Leadership as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina.

Recently, Cashman was elected Board Chairman of the Upstate Fatherhood Coalition. The Upstate Fatherhood Coalition is a non-profit organization that serves the counties in upstate South Carolina by expanding the involvement of fathers in the lives of their children, helping to develop parenting and relationship-building skills, facilitating the creation of team-parenting plans between unmarried mothers and fathers, assisting in the negotiation of child support issues, assisting with employment, and providing opportunities for peer support.
