Women in Philanthropy hosts the 21st Annual Power of the Purse

May 3, 2023

United Way of the Midlands’ Women in Philanthropy hosts the 21st Annual Power of the Purse event Thursday, May 18, 6:30 p.m. at the Columbia Museum of Art, brought to you by Pink Carpet Sponsor Bank of America.

“Power of the Purse is Women in Philanthropy’s biggest fundraising event of the year,” said Jennifer Gugliotti, Chair of Women in Philanthropy. “The community’s support helps fund programs that provide crucial education and resources to families, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come. Together, we can make a lasting impact and create a community that uplifts and empowers women and children.”

Women in Philanthropy raises funds for grants benefiting programs that support women and children’s causes in the Midlands, like Calhoun County First Steps and The Cooperative Ministry.

Calhoun County First Steps uses the funds for its Parenting: Pathway to Resiliency program, which utilizes a home visitation strategy to equip parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote school readiness, healthy childhood development, and long-term success of their preschool-aged children.

The Cooperative Ministry uses the funds for its Financial Health and Empowerment program, which provides low-to-moderate income households with individualized financial assistance, education, and coaching to strengthen their capacity for self-support.

“This event is an opportunity to not only raise funds for important programs but to also strengthen our bonds as a community. Every purse at this event represents our commitment to helping those in need, and we invite you to be a part of this powerful movement,” said Tammy Jones, Power of the Purse Chair.

The event will be held inside the Columbia Museum of Art and outside at Boyd Plaza, the museum’s newest addition, at 1515 Main Street. Guests will be greeted with a glass of champagne upon arrival provided by Champagne Sponsor Benedict College. The event will feature a one-of-a-kind silent auction including designer purses and other luxury items for men and women. Guests will enjoy food from Southern Way Catering, an open bar and live music from Terence Young Project.

Ticket prices for Women in Philanthropy investors and Young Leaders Society donors are $65 per person. Guest tickets are $75 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $85. Visit womeninphilanthropy.com to purchase tickets in advance. The evening dress is business professional.
