September 6, 2012

Child cancer patients gathered at Sweet CeCe’s for free ice cream, carriage rides, story-telling and toys

CHARLESTON, SC – September 5, 2012 – Christine Osborne, owner of Wonder Works in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, downtown Charleston and on Kiawah Island, S.C., announced that the company helped kick-off Child Cancer Awareness Month (September) with a special event at Sweet CeCe’s on Market Street on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. The Chase After a Cure organization along with child cancer patients and survivors from MUSC Children’s Hospital and their families all gathered at Sweet CeCe’s for free frozen yogurt, followed by a free carriage ride from Old South Carriage Company, story-telling from The Princess of Charleston and each child received a free toy from Wonder Works.

Osborne said, “This evening was a perfect little treat for these kids! We were privileged to be a part of this to help honor the children for their amazing courage and strength.”

There are multiple events throughout the month of September to help benefit pediatric cancer research. One of them is The Hugs for Harper Tennis Championship from September 14 -16, 2012 that will be held at Kiawah Island Golf and Tennis Resort in honor of Harper Eliabeth Drolet who lost her battle to Rhabdomyosarcoma, a very rare form of pediatric soft tissue cell cancer, last year at the age of 11. The Hugs For Harper Endowment raises money to fund a full-time researcher at MUSC Children’s Hospital. The event will feature tennis matches, a dinner and a live auction to raise money for this cause.

During the month of September, Wonder Works is hosting ‘Tattoo Tuesdays’ at all four locations where customers may get Glitter Tattoos for just $5, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Hugs for Harper.

Osborne added, “September marks national Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and I encourage other local businesses and people in the community to raise money or awareness for this amazing and needed cause.”
