Woodlands at Furman resident to serve as Honorary Marshal at Greenville Armed Forces Day Parade

GREENVILLE, SC – John I. Neel, a World War II veteran and resident of The Woodlands at Furman, will serve as honorary Marshall of the 2015 Greenville Armed Forces Parade.

More than 40 groups ranging from veterans to active military to high school students will take part in the 14th Annual Greenville Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration this Saturday, May 16, in downtown Greenville. The public is welcome.

The parade will begin at 5 p.m., traveling down Main Street, beginning at the intersection of McBee Avenue and ending at Markley Street. It will culminate at Pendleton Street Baptist Church with An All-American Cruise-In, military displays, military re-enactors, JROTC demonstrations, music, hamburgers, classic cars and more.

Neel is a retired architect, who has live at The Woodlands at Furman for the past six years.

Neel, better known as Jack, volunteered to serve in World War II in 1944. He served in the 75th Infantry as a first machine gunner during the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded in the leg.
