The Woodlands continues tradition of giving this holiday season

January 11, 2016

The Woodlands at Furman is spreading Christmas cheer a little further this year by donating over $3,000 to Safe Harbor. This donation was made possible through the Woodland’s annual Festival of Trees fundraiser, which allows local businesses and organizations to sponsor and decorate one of dozens of Christmas trees throughout the Woodlands campus.

Twenty organizations participated in this year’s event, including Furman University, Bank of Travelers Rest, and the Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce. This is the fifth year that the Woodlands has hosted this event, and a different nonprofit is chosen to receive the proceeds each year.

“This year, we chose to support Safe Harbor because of their mission to supporting women and families, and the work they do to strengthen our community,” said Debbie Wilson, Festival of Trees coordinator.

The Woodland’s tradition of giving back extends beyond the holidays. Past charitable events have included participation in Red Nose Day to support local children’s charities, and donations of over 81 cases of bottled water to support South Carolina flood relief. Serving the community is also an important component of Masterpiece Living, the Woodland’s unique lifestyle brand that encourages seniors to maintain active, engaged lives.
