Workforce development & flood relief major focus of Bank of America grants

Bank’s Community Support Has Major Impact in State w/ $3M in Total SC Giving Last Year

 

Bank of America is honored to be a part of the South Carolina community for 130 years and we are committed to helping it continue to grow and prosper. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation provides philanthropic support to address needs vital to the health of the state’s economy through a focus on workforce development and education, community development, and critical needs such as hunger and emergency shelter.

This month the Bank of America Foundation announced more than $165,000 in new local grants in Columbia, SC that will support vital workforce development and education programs to help people succeed in school, in financial health and in being prepared to enter the workforce.   Statewide, the Foundation has granted more than $350,000 in 2016 to support workforce development and education initiatives.

$3 Million Total SC Giving in 2015

Last year, Bank of America and its employees gave more than $3 million in grants, sponsorships and donations to South Carolina charities and nonprofits. Bank of America doubles the impact employee giving has by matching dollar-for-dollar employee donations.

Bank of America also highly promotes volunteerism and offers employees 2 hours of leave per week to do volunteer work. In South Carolina, 1,500 bank employees across the state performed more than 17,500 volunteer hours last year.

2016 Midlands Workforce Development & Education Grants

This month, Bank of America in Columbia announced new local community grants supporting workforce development & education, as well as continued flood relief support. More than $165,000 in grants went to the following local non-profit partners to support their efforts in workforce development and education:

Flood Relief & Additional Grants

Bank of America is also proud to continue to support the United Way of the Midlands with a $75,000 grant for flood rebuilding efforts.  This is in addition to the $150,000 that the Bank of America Charitable Foundation granted to the United Way of South Carolina last October for flood relief, as well as a $100,000 grant to the American Red Cross of South Carolina.

In the coming months, Bank of America will provide details on additional local grants that will be made in the areas of housing and hunger.
