CHARLESTON, SC – July 30, 2012 – World Trade Center Charleston (WTCC), an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, hosted its inaugural International Trade Luncheon, Wednesday, July 28. This was an opportunity to connect with other local Charleston business leaders focused on global trade growth and hear about the issues and opportunities surrounding international trade.

This year’s luncheon featured keynote speaker Phillip Poland, Esq., Director, Export Control & Trade Integrity, International Trade Affairs & Compliance at DHL Express (USA) Inc. Poland is responsible of overseeing Customs-Trade Partnership against Terrorism C-TPAT compliance, export regulatory compliance, working trade policy issues, and addressing compliance concerns when potential violations occur.
For a regional perspective, Jim Newsome, president and CEO, South Carolina Ports Authority discussed trade and growth opportunities developing through the port and other internationally focused mechanisms.

The luncheon event recognized two award winners. Local international business guru Bentley World-Packaging received the first-ever International Service Provider of the Year award for their impressive global presence and local growth. The Importer/Exporter of the Year award was presented to Daimler Vans Manufacturing for the commitment to the development of international trade.
