WP Rawl & Bi-Lo Give Back to Columbia

June 17, 2014

PELION, SC – Local leafy greens grower and shipper, WP Rawl, will host the second annual Katie’s Krops Camp June 22nd-25th at their headquarters in Pelion, S.C.  New this year to the three day camp, Katie’s Krops young growers will give back to the community with a service project at Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia sponsored by BI-LO.

The fourteen campers handpicked throughout the country will join Katie in building a raised bed vegetable garden as a sustainable source of fresh produce for Harvest Hope. This service project will be sponsored by BI-LO, a supporter of Katie’s Krops. Harvest Hope, Katie’s Krops, and sponsors invite the community to join them June 24th from 10am to 1pm to watch the building of the bed and learn more about their mission.

As a native South Carolinian, Katie is proud to give back to Columbia for a second year. “The camp has quickly become one of my favorite Katie’s Krops events,” she says. “It is the one time of the year our growers from across the country are able come together in person, learn from one and other, encourage one and other, and create lasting friendships. I am so grateful to the Rawl family for their support of Katie’s Krops and the camp.”

The leafy greens grower, processor, and distributor also looks forward to hosting the camp for a second year.  “Katie has such vision,” says Ashley Rawl, director of sales, marketing and product development at WP Rawl. “Campers have a wonderful opportunity to learn from her and from each other during their stay in Pelion. We are proud to be a part of such an educational, philanthropic, and fun camp for young growers.”

Katie’s Krops Camp further educates the young growers about agriculture and the environment, a sustainable solution to the problem of hunger, and teaches responsibility and compassion. The three-day camp will also include workshops on growing practices, budgeting, and other gardening needs.

Katie’s Krops and the camp wouldn’t be possible without the support of donations. To learn more about giving to the cause visitkatieskrops.com and click donate.
