YMCA of Columbia Launches 2015 Annual Campaign to Support Community Needs

February 10, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The YMCA of Columbia has launched its annual campaign to ensure that everyone in the Midlands has access to vital community programs and resources that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Every day, the YMCA of Columbia works to support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing community issues, such as school readiness, chronic diseases and food insecurity.

“Throughout the Midlands, countless people know the Y. But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think”, said Wendy Broderick, Chief Development Officer of the YMCA of Columbia. “The Y is more than a gym. It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.”

This year, the YMCA of Columbia hopes to raise $375,000. Funds raised will support summer learning loss prevention, LiveStrong at the YMCA program for adult cancer survivors, YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, year-round youth feeding programs, and ensuring all have access to the Y.

Last year, charitable gifts from YMCA donors made it possible for thousands of kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school; for families to reconnect and grow together; and for hundreds of people access to education and training to reach their full potential.

Campaign kick-off events take place this week at all branches of the YMCA of Columbia.
