The YMCA of Greater Spartanburg has won an international fundraising award, thanks to the strong culture of philanthropy and generosity of the Spartanburg community.

The 2017 Eagle Award for Excellence in Fundraising is awarded annually by the North American YMCA Development Organization (NAYDO) to Ys that demonstrate consistent growth in annual giving, have an endowment program in place, and that have conducted successful capital campaigns.

A videographer from YMCA of the USA came to Spartanburg in early March to film a video featuring YMCA leaders and volunteers. The video was shown to an audience of more than 3000 attendees from all over the US, Mexico and Canada at the NAYDO conference in San Diego in late April. The video is available for public viewing here: https://youtu.be/k9kdDJ2X45k.

“This award is a reflection of the Spartanburg community,” said Rob Chapman, Board Chair, “and of the spirit of philanthropy which so many of our community agencies and family foundations have helped shape. We are blessed to live in a community whose residents believe so deeply in the power of working together to help others.”

Last year the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg provided over $1.325 million in scholarships, free programs and subsidies to the Spartanburg community, and they are on track to give away $1.5 million this year.

“It is rare for a Y our size to receive this award,” said Rick Callebs, CEO. “Past Eagle Award recipients include the YMCAs of Houston, San Diego and New York City.”

The only other Y to receive the award this year was the YMCA of Indianapolis, a much larger YMCA. This is yet another reason to be proud of our community!
