Partnering Organizations Will Bring Safe Water to Africa

N. CHARLESTON, SC – June 19, 2012 – Young & Free South Carolina, powered by South Carolina Federal Credit Union, partnered with Water Missions International to donate a clean water purification system to a community located on Lake Victoria in Africa.

“Young & Free SC sponsored the campaign for the second consecutive year to bring awareness to the global water crisis that kills more than 5,500 people every day and to raise money for Water Missions International,” said Darryl LaPlante, Young & Free Spokester.

Young & Free SC raised $20,000 through community donations, benefit art show held at Mixson Barn, fundraiser dance party at Charleston Southern University, trivia nights at Perfectly Franks, Zumba® class fundraiser and South Carolina Federal Credit Union branch fundraisers.

The money raised will be added to the $75,000 raised by other groups, bringing the grand total to $95,000, to help Kimi Island install and implement the Trade Water Project.  This will provide the community with a sustainable water system.

Last year, the Young & Free SC team went to the village of Musubi to meet with the villagers who now have access to clean drinking water because of the funds raised in 2011.
