Your Carolina’s Megan Heidlberg Named Honorary Race Chair For 20th Annual Komen Race For The Cure®

September 23, 2014

GREENVILLE, SC Susan G. Komen SC Mountains to Midlands affiliate announced that Megan Heidlberg, co-host of WSPA’s Your Carolina with Jack and Megan and host of Scene on Seven, will serve as the Honorary Chair for the 20th annual Race for the Cure® , scheduled for Sept. 27 at Fluor Field in Downtown Greenville.

“I’ve interviewed so many women who have fought the disease and so many family members who have either lost a loved one or are fighting hand-in-hand with a loved one,” Heidlberg says. “But it was this past summer when it hit me the hardest when my mom, one of the healthiest people I know, found out she had breast cancer. It’s personal for me, now”

As Honorary Race Chair, Heidlberg will play a key role during the Race events, honoring survivors and co-survivors during the Survivor Ceremony, greeting Race participants, and kicking off the Race with the official start gun.

“I’m honored to serve as the Honorary Race Chair during the Race’s 20th anniversary and hope to bring awareness that breast cancer doesn’t discriminate. I want people to know that you can survive cancer, and there’s an amazing support group and so many resources at your disposal in your community,” Heidlberg adds.

The annual Race for the Cure is the largest and most effective fundraising and educational event for breast cancer, which focuses on honoring survivors and remembering those lost to breast cancer. Race participants and teams, often formed in honor or memory of a loved one affected by breast cancer, raise funds for education, screenings, treatment, support and research. Race day events include a certified 5K Race, one-mile Fun Run, Survivor Breakfast and Survivor Ceremony, all taking place at Fluor Field in Downtown Greenville.

“We are so excited to have Megan as our Honorary Race Chair this year,” said Komen SCMM Executive Director, Stephanie Miller. “One of our main goals is to build awareness of breast cancer, and Megan will be a powerful voice in the community to do that for our 20th Race.”
