August 22, 2016

Zapp announced today that the firm has rolled out over 100 electric three-wheel scooters that are rentable from over 40 designated pickup/dropoff locations around Columbia and USC. Locations can be found in the map-view page of the Zapp Ride Share app. Since launching Zapp in early August, 1500 people have become registered users, logging in over 2,000 Zapp rides. In response to the increased demand, the company plans to roll out an additional 100 scooters.

About Zapp Ride Share
Electric scooters are rentable for an affordable fee of 20 cents per minute using a secure smartphone app that pre-registers and qualifies each renter. Renters can download the Zapp Ride Share in the App Store and Google Play Store. First-time Zapp renters are required to watch a short safety video before the scooter will operate. The company offers free training classes on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the parking garage on the corner of Pendleton and Bull streets. The classes are taught by USC professor, Mike Kelly, a verified motorcycle instructor.

“We are very excited and proud to launch these new electric scooters,” said Frank Scozzafava, CEO of Zapp. “This truly will change the way people commute around cities and college campuses, and while reducing carbon emissions.

“Not only is Zapp an environmentally friendly way of transportation, but it’s also very affordable. The average ride is less than $3 and it includes insurance, helmet, parking, and plenty of electricity. Our special battery packs are efficient and powerful, and our road crew exchanges batteries to ensure that a Zapp rider always has power.”

Scozzafava continued, “We ask that everyone take one of our free training classes if you are not an experienced scooter or motorcycle rider. Zapp wants everyone to stay safe and to wear the provided helmet!”
